Prof. Amien Suyitno Reimagines AICIS+ 2025 as a Global Platform for Islamic Solutions to Ecology, Science and Technology

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Prof. Amien Suyitno, Indonesia’s Director General of Islamic Education, is steering the Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) toward a bold new vision for 2025. Under his leadership, the conference, to be hosted by Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) in October, will tackle ecotheology, science and technological transformation, aiming to position Islamic scholarship as a vital contributor to global challenges.

Speaking at a planning session in Jakarta, Prof. Suyitno emphasized the need for AICIS to transcend traditional academic boundaries and align with Indonesia’s national development goals while addressing urgent global issues. “AICIS cannot be a mere repetition of past years,” he said. “We need themes that resonate with the strategic interests of our nation and capture the world’s attention.”

Suyitno’s vision centers on ecology and technology as the conference’s core themes, with subtopics like public health, artificial intelligence ethics, sustainable economics, and the fusion of science with Islamic values. He sees these areas as critical for demonstrating how Islamic thought can offer practical solutions to crises like climate change and technological disruption. “Our State Islamic Universities, especially those grounded in science and technology, must lead this global discourse,” he urged.

To ensure AICIS 2025 stands out, Prof. Suyitno is pushing for a revitalized format. He envisions a dynamic event with cutting-edge digital platforms to amplify its reach, alongside a small- and medium-enterprise bazaar and an academic journal exhibition.

Editors from top-tier journals will review participants’ work, creating pathways for emerging scholars. “This is about creating a vibrant, inclusive platform,” Suyitno said.

Prof. Suyitno also stressed the importance of UIII asserting a strong identity as the host. “UIII must present a fresh, courageous face, not just serve as a backdrop,” he said, highlighting the university’s potential to elevate its global profile through the conference.

By prioritizing international participation, Suyitno aims to make AICIS 2025 a collaborative hub for scholars, policymakers, and innovators. He envisions a forum that delivers research-driven answers to pressing humanitarian and environmental challenges, rooted in Islamic perspectives. “This is our chance to show the world what Islamic scholarship can achieve,” he said.

Prof. Suyitno’s ambitious plans reflect Indonesia’s broader goal of leading global conversations on sustainability and ethical innovation. As AICIS 2025 takes shape, his leadership promises to transform the conference into a beacon of intellectual and moral progress.
